+ How much will it cost to hire us?

It is impossible to predict the total costs because there is so much we do not know about your project. Hiring a qualfied interior designer for your design project is the best insurance polciy. We help prevent homeowners from making costly design mistakes while elevating the design beyond basic.

Our core design fees are billed as flat fees in 2 payments at the start of each of the Conceptual and Execution Phases. The calculation is [Total Work Area SF] X [Complexity] = Total Flat Fee. The Administration phase is a pay-per-use depening on when site meetings happen and any changes to our design plans that may be required.

All design fees subject to applicable federal tax (5% G.S.T.)

+ Why do you charge for the Project Consultation meeting?

The Project Consultation meeting is the most important step in the entire design process. We all know the continued pressures that our economy and market put on each of us and as a small business in British Columbia we are not immune to these added costs. We consider the Project Consultation an analytical diagnostic of your challenges and the resulting Proposal is how we plan to address them in a systematic way.

+ What plans or drawings will I receive (Design Plans/Construction Drawings)?

Depending on the complexity of your project, the Design Plans (or Construction Drawings) will vary. Most plan sets include a Floor & Furniture Plan, Construction & Demolition Plan, Power & Lighting Plan, and Interior Elevatons. For Kitchen & Bath projects, we will also add a Cabinet Section Detail & Cabinet List, Countertop Plan, and Perspectives in colour. If your design project is a renovation that we can manage in-house, there will be additional permit plan drawing requirements. Interior Styling projects may only include a Furniture Layout and Perspectives in colour.

+ Do I require any Allied Professionals for my project?

Most renovation projects will require an Professional Structural Engineer at an additional cost between $1500 to $5000, depending on the work they need to provide. The scope of the work you want to do will determine if your project requires an Architectural Technologist, Registered Architect, Professional Structural Engineer, or Professional Mechanical Engineer. If one is required, you will enter into those contracts seperatly.

+ What do I need to start a design project?

By this point, you should have a fairly good idea of what the project is that you want to do and some semblance of a budget you want to acheive. This includes doing your own research, gathering inspiration images, and obtaining your building plans on-file with the Authority Having Juristiction (municipal hall.)

+ How will I communicate with your team?

During the design process, we will use a combination of Client Portal messaging, face-to-face Design Meetings, and telephone calls to communicate. We do not use text messages or emails because they interupt our workflow (making us less efficent) and get lost in the mix. Our Client Portal ensures that we are spam-free and that we can see and respond to your Message.

Clients will need to make time for Design Meetings and take their own notes, record decisions, itemize their own deliverables. Please keep our Design Meetings ontrack and on-time by putting your devices on silent.

+ How involved will I need to be during the design of the project?

Our Clients hire us because we are creative professionals and certified masters in our field. We work best with Clients that respect our organization methods and process. You will have involvement because it is your money. There will be daytime meetings such as visiting showrooms to review products and after-hours you will be communicating with us in your online Studio. On average, you can expect to need anywhere from 10 - 24 hours extra time per week.

During constrution, you will be involved with the Contractor and we leave that level of engagment and preferences you set between you and them.

+ When are the meetings going to be with you?

Design Meetings are scheduled during our posted business hours.

You might be asking "Why 10-4?" The answer is simple: we need to balance our workload and time between multiple levels, such as Contractors, our cabinet shop, vendors & suppliers, and personal life. We hope that you can understand how imporant that is.

+ How long does it take to design a project?

It is impossible to predict timelines at the outset because each of our Proposals are customized to our Clients needs with and estimated design schedule provided. Based on our project history, the average design time needed is a minimum of 90 days to a maximum of 18 months. Some projects are less and some are more, but it all depends on our workload and the Clients ability to schedule design meetings and make decisions.

Should your design project has a completion timeline of under 90 days, you can expect higher design fees and Product rush surcharges. We can help with these types of rush projects, but it does come at a cost to the Client.

Any further Construction schedules are discussed with the selected Contractor.

+ Where do you source Products from?

COREY KLASSEN INTERIOR DESIGN is a full-service inteiror design firm. This means that we research, source, select, specify, and procure unique products for each of our Clients from our pre-vetted suppliers and vendors. The Client Price for each product purchased from us includes our mark-up and shows our Client discount we extend to you.

Only on rare exceptions will we purchase Products at a retailer. For these types of purchases, we bill a 20% surcharge on top of the regular price to cover our time and overhead expenses. We can not purchase Products from a foreign country, including the U.S.A., due the unknown nature of customs brokerage and import duty fees.

If your intention is to purchase Products in an attempt to save costs or use a Trade discount, you will be souly responsible for the purchases and our design fees will be higher because selling Products is an essential part of ours business plan.

+ Who hires the Contractor?

Clients hire qualified Contractors directly with a seperate Contract. If elected, we can perform regular site visits (at an additional charge) during construction to verify that work is proceeding according to the construction drawings we provide.

If you do not have a Contractor, please see our about page for our recommendation. Otherwise, seeking an Accredited Business with the Better Business Bureau is the best option.

+ What is an "Interior Designer"?

In Feburary 2019, the Council for Interior Design Qualificaiton updated the term Interior Design.

Interior design encompasses the analysis, planning, design, documentation, and management of interior non-structural/non-seismic construction and alteration projects in compliance with applicable building design and construction, fire, life-safety, and energy codes, standards, regulations, and guidelines for the purpose of obtaining a building permit, as allowed by law. Qualified by means of education, experience, and examination, interior designers have a moral and ethical responsibility to protect consumers and occupants through the design of code-compliant, accessible, and inclusive interior environments that address well-being, while considering the complex physical, mental, and emotional needs of people.

+ What is a "Certified Master Kitchen & Bath Designer"?

A Certified Master Kitchen & Bath Designer is a professional qualification of the NKBA with a minimum CKBD appelation. Certified Master Kitchen & Bath Designers are highly skilled specialists who participate in the education of the industry as a whole with a minimum of 7 years of full-time work experience with a minimum Undergraduate Degree education. A professional that sells cabinetry & countertops is a Design Specialist for those products and not a professional kitchen & bath designer.
