A cute couple came into the showroom I work in and, after viewing my portfolio, she asked me:
"So what kind of designer are you? Are you like Mike Holmes? Sarah Richardson? Or Peter Fallico? What's you're thing?"
FloForm Countertops, who recently profiled me as their Designer of The Week (#DOTW), asked what would my own HGTV show be. It's not like I don't make my position on HGTV known, but I can not compare myself to anyone you see on HGTV because I am me.
I could self-promote and tell you what kind of designer I am, give you my values and principles, tell you about my design process, and give you a list of services that I charge for... here comes the Charlie Brown teacher to complete the rest of this sentence. I could give you a pretty website that goes on and on about how good I am, how much people like me, and all the great and wonderful pretty work that I'm doing.
That's really not my schtick, I don't need it. It also has no relevance to how well I design or complete a job and if you will be satisfied. When it comes down to it, when I step back and take a look at the big picture, I just want to be happy. That's it. That's the kind of designer I am.
