Nadia Plesner, a art and design student in Amsterdam, is being sued by Louis Vuitton (LVMH) for using their handbag on a t-shirt, aptly titled "Simple Living". 100% of the sales from the t-shirts are donated to Divest for Darfur, which puts pressure on the Sudanese government to co-operate with international peace keeping efforts. Would the image be successful without the use of the LV handbag? Would it have gained attention? I don't think so. But the commentary of the emaciated child holding the chihuahua and handbag is powerful, none the less, but you have to be a bit of a ignorant artist grasping at straws here.
