Yesterday I forgot the pair of glasses or contacts that I normally practice yoga with. I have very little visual acuity without corrective lens’ and thought it would be kind of liberating to feel and practice my way through class – hot class.

Although I’ve done this before a couple of times, yesterday I was very mistaken. During the first 15 minutes I discovered that I am already spatially self aware however without corrective lenses and both feet on the ground I am vulnerable to fall. I became terrified, frustrated and felt a lot of self pity. I found that without the sense of sight my mind became very chatty and defeatist.

I needed to get control of my emotions quickly because it was unnecessary to feel all those emotions. It wasn’t helping me practice.

How would I practice if I were blind? Simple. Just keep practicing. This video is some pretty intense inspiration.

Sometimes we all aren’t as blessed as I am this week and some of us face difficult times every day. This past Wednesday, one of my instructors was hit by a car as he was cycling through the West End. The driver ran and hit another cyclist one block away, only to flee that incident as well. Although the vehicle has been seized, the driver is absent from this storey. [CBC, Province]

Anyone getting behind the wheel of a vehicle must remember that they have 1360 kg (3000 lbs) with added velocity is no match for a 65kg human. A vehicle is a loaded gun when confronted with a bicyclist or human. Remember the West End intersections with lights across Davie and Robson with a stop sign on the cross street? Well, those are STILL stop signs and failing to stop and then hitting someone is a fatal mistake. It’s all in RoadSense for Drivers. It’s free and down-loadable. Read it several times.

The cyclists have a long journey ahead of them and they need us all to be their advocates, support and friends. They’ll need to live, grow and develop trust and mobility.

In this week of my 40 Days to Personal Revolution I have truly discovered that you do not need a vacation to feel revitalized. Simply dedicating your practice to resetting your life on your mat can truly happen. Even rejuvenating yourself with your local food and area can reset your escapist attitude. I experienced this today when I double practiced back to back with Power and then Hot classes. I am so truly lucky to have some great instructors in a great studio to call home.

I have embarked on a 40 days to Personal Revolution, Baron Baptiste style, and I have found that in this week of presence that there are some things that I can live without.

Normally an unforeseen expense would keep me awake at night and bitchy Corey would come for a visit. Yesterday on such expense fell from the sky. It bothered me for a bit, but then I saw my future and changed it. These things will happen but they do not make me or own me. I slept like a log.

I worked steadily on a budget in September and I noticed I made a flaw in my calculations. Normally, finances would send me into a panic because I have never had much of any, but I see that it does not serve me to panic. Money is there when I wake up and go to bed so nothing is wrong.

I use “can’t” a lot in my internal thoughts and that keeps me ever looking forward and backwards. I can’t do the dishes, I have too much to do. I can’t complete your request, I have about 30 before you. I can’t meet you about your job, I don’t have a timetable that works. You get the picture. So I am dropping “can’t” and its’ evil cousins don’t and won’t.

I wonder what other evolutions are waiting for me. It doesn’t matter really, I want he surprise.
